Christmas in Nancy 2026: plan a stay that suits you

In Nancy, December can be enjoyed just as much with your eyes on the façades as around a table. You come for the holidays, you linger in the streets of the old town and you often end up adding a walk to your plans. To make the most of this getaway, the most pleasant approach is to keep some time between appointments.

Key dates for the 2026 holidays

The city announces the Saint Nicholas celebrations from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. This general period does not mean that every chalet, show or attraction runs every day: check the specific programme for each event before your visit.

Saint Nicholas and Christmas make up two different moments within the same winter stay. If you are looking for the big gatherings, organise your visit around the official programme. If you prefer to discover the city at your own pace, choose your dates first and build a more flexible route.

Three ways to discover Nancy in December

Atmospheric scene created with wooden chalets, garlands and visitors in coats.

For a first visit, combine Place Stanislas with a walk through the historic centre. Look at the railings, pass through the Héré arch, then continue towards Place de la Carrière. Come back into the old-town streets for a warm break.

For a food-focused stay, book a meal and devote another outing to the villages, depending on their opening times. You will avoid turning your evening into a series of queues.

With family, choose one main activity per half-day. A walk, an activity suited to the children's ages and a break are often enough to make up a lovely day.

Why stay in the old town?

This district suits travellers who want to include walks in their stay. It lets you discover Nancy in a different way than rushing from one activity to the next. The exact location of the accommodation, its access and its surroundings still need to be checked on the booking page.

To choose your apartment, look at the actual capacity, the layout of the sleeping arrangements, the arrival conditions and the advertised amenities. If you are coming by car, check parking separately: a central apartment does not necessarily include a space.

Christmas, the days in between or New Year?

Around 24 and 25 December, the priority is to confirm opening times and book the meals you want. Between Christmas and New Year, a stay of several nights lets you combine visits and family time. For 31 December, choose your evening before arranging your return.

Do not build your plans on an event seen in an old publication. Information from the previous edition may still be circulating, particularly for opening times and transport.
