Make sure your ticket clearly shows Nancy station. Lorraine TGV is a different arrival point and requires a transfer; it is not another name for the city-centre station.
If you have a connection, check the times of the various legs and keep some margin to reach the accommodation at the agreed time.

Save the address sent with the booking and choose the real route. The old town covers an area: no single journey time suits every apartment.
Walking may be an option if your group and your luggage allow it. Otherwise, look at the transport available or find out about a transfer solution.
Check the traffic information when your arrival coincides with a major event. Access points and stops may differ from normal operation.
For a late arrival, also check the actual service at your time. A route shown during the day is not necessarily valid in the evening.
Keep the access instructions, the useful contact details and the announced times. If you arrive before the accommodation is ready, ask what solution exists for luggage rather than assuming it is possible.
Once settled, start with a short outing to discover the neighbourhood. You can save the longer walks for the next day.
