Start by looking at the gate from the outside. Its volumes offer a different starting point from the great squares of the centre. Take the chance to choose the details that will give the walk its thread: doorways, stones, windows or the silhouettes of the buildings.
Then head towards the Grande Rue, staying mindful of traffic conditions and the permitted routes.

Move at your own pace and reach the area around Place Saint-Epvre. It is a good stage for planning a break, depending on the establishments open and what you feel like.
Do not turn every façade into a compulsory stop. Choose a few details, then let the rest of the walk unfold freely.
Continue towards the Place de la Carrière. After the old streets, the space opens out differently. Reach the Arc Héré and then Place Stanislas to end this part of the route.
You can reverse the whole walk if you are arriving from the centre. There is no set direction for enjoying these places.
If a confirmed village or show is on your route, add it without trying to pile everything in. Keep another outing for anything that would require a significant detour.
The duration depends on your breaks, the crowds and the group's pace; do not calculate it like a direct trip.
