Nancy Ephemeral Garden 2026: plan your visit

Among the façades and gilded railings, greenery changes the way you look at Place Stanislas. The Ephemeral Garden is a reason to come to Nancy in autumn, but also to linger: after the visit, the streets of the old town, a museum and a carefully chosen table can extend the trip.

Information checked on 21/10/2026 — 2026 edition, to be reviewed each year (dates & programmes vary).

The key facts of the 2026 edition

The Ephemeral Garden is announced from 2 October to 1 November 2026, every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., on Place Stanislas. The theme of this edition is "Gallé ou l'éclat de vert".

Keep these hours in mind to plan your self-guided visit. Guided events have their own schedule and, depending on the format, separate booking arrangements. Check the City's information before you travel.

A walk to take at your own pace

Botanical composition created with ferns, burgundy flowers and reflections in water.

Start with an overall view of the square, then enter the route. Look at whatever draws your attention: a leaf, a perspective, a material, a reflection. You don't need to recognise every plant to enjoy the installation.

Take a first walk through without trying to photograph everything. Then come back to the details you liked. You will keep more memories this way than by discovering everything through your phone screen.

The time it takes depends on your interest, your breaks and the activities you choose. We recommend keeping some flexibility in your schedule rather than fixing a rigid visit length.

The garden as a starting point for a stay

For a first discovery of Nancy, combine the garden with a walk passing by the Héré arch and Place de la Carrière, then towards Saint-Epvre and the Grande Rue. This is a suggested route through the centre, not an official itinerary for the event.

With one night on site, you can separate the garden visit from a cultural outing. A second walk through can also be pleasant, to see the same scene in a different light.

Visiting with children or as a couple

As a family, choose a simple goal: spot a few shapes, look for one detail and keep a break in mind. The programme also offers investigations; our family guide helps you prepare for them.

As a couple, build the trip around a walk and a meal, with enough time to pick another visit depending on what you feel like.

Where to stay to enjoy Nancy?

An apartment in the old town can serve as a base for exploring the historic centre. Check the actual location, the sleeping arrangements, the amenities and the check-in conditions before booking. No walking time should be assumed from the name of a district alone.
